Meet The Team

Brett Barton

Brett is the Managing Director and lead Insolvency Practitioner of BLB Advisory Limited. After recognising that distressed companies and individuals had a need for partner-led local advice that was tailored to their needs, in January 2020 Brett left his role as a partner of a national practice and opened up his new firm.

Brett has a wealth of experience in insolvency spanning over 25 years. Working for both national and regional practices, he has spent the majority of his career advising small and medium sized businesses, mostly owner managed. As an owner of multiple businesses himself, he understands fully the challenges facing business owners and is able to offer his unique insight into managing those issues.

Although he has worked in almost every sector imaginable, Brett also has specific sector knowledge in Manufacturing (advanced and automotive), Tax Planning and Group Reorganisations, Third Sector, Transport and Haulage, Retail and Wholesale, Social Clubs, Hospitality and Deceased Insolvent Estates.

Brett is a Fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association and a Fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.

When he’s not working, Brett enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, exploring what the world has to offer. He is also passionate about sport and, when time allows, he enjoys playing golf and mountain biking.

Louise Hookham

Louise has been working in the Insolvency industry for almost 25 years, having trained with a Hereford Firm of Licensed Insolvency Practitioners.

Her specialism is corporate insolvency, in particular assisting business owners to find solutions. Louise will work alongside the current business advisors and the Directors to explore all possibilities, from rescue and re-financing to restructure, or she will guide them through to a liquidation if this is the only option. Louise is also experienced in offering personal insolvency advice.

She is well known in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Wales, having rescued a number of high profile businesses in these geographical locations, saving many jobs for local people.

Louise has assisted with the rescue and turnaround of businesses in the Engineering sector, Leisure industry, Building sector, the Property market and many others. She is known for her kind and compassionate approach and her unfailing professionalism. Louise has assisted with large national insolvencies and insolvencies with overseas assets, along with assisting micro businesses through the insolvency process. If the business can be saved, Louise is adept at finding the most effective way of trading on in the future.

When Louise isn’t working, she is happiest in the kitchen cooking a stonker of a meal with a G & T in hand.

Toby Holt

Toby has worked in Insolvency since the Insolvency Act 1986 was first made law. He was initially employed by a medium sized local practice in Worcester, and subsequently for PwC and Smith & Williamson nationally.

He has specialised in a variety of industries over his career, notably Travel, Insurance and Local Authority Recoveries, and he was heavily involved in the Creditor market. At BLB Advisory, he focuses on the SME market, mostly working with Accountants and Lawyers advising their distressed clients.

Toby operates mainly in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and North Gloucestershire, although he is happy to advise anyone nationally.

Away from the office, Toby is an avid rugby fan, and still supports The Warriors and his second team, The Chiefs, as he maintains a strong connection with Exeter from his university days.

He has a real fondness for walking, and if he’s not up the Malverns at least 3 times a week, he gets twitchy. He is also a keen dancer, and came third in Strictly Worcestershire a few years ago.
